I never even tried any of them because I did a whole lot of research when I first heard about them. Here’s what I found…
Penny auctions of all kind are nothing but a total rip-off, they are more like gambling than anything else. Read these consumer reports about beezid.com:

It’s a bit tricky. The business model makes people think ’scam’. Other people who have had bad experience are quick to say ’scam’, and finally there is the word ’scam’ associated with all penny auctions.
But in actuality it comes from misunderstanding. Here are some tips for penny auctions if you are interested in checking them out further.
1) Forget what you see on consumer report sites and stuff like that, things like that will give you a skewed sense of what it is since the consumers who win and the consumer who lose will give you two different types of answers.
2) Visit their facebook pages. This is probably your best course of action for finding the best penny auction for you. Why? Because the facebook page will give you an insight to the type of community, the way the company treats its users, and real comments from real people.
I am a member of a penny auction site myself, but I am not going to say which one to use for you. But.. I do recommend going to the facebook pages for those penny auctions as your #1 source for uncovering the truth and to make a decision whether or not you want to be a member at that site.
Tips:
Do your homework, and be patient. Your bids are valuable. Don’t be so quick to bid. Look at the past auctions, see at what price ranges those things closed at, then see who particpated and bid on those items.
If you do your homework and make notes, you can do very well in a penny auction. If you are just going to bid and ‘hope for the best’ it’s not going to get you very far.
It really is a degree of research and skill, and like anything you buy, there are choices for purchase and not so good choices. Like anything, its important to make an informed decision.
Hope this helps.
I use penny auctions all the time. Its not a scam if you use a verified site. With anything you do online, you should make sure the company is reputable and verified. I buy a ton off of penny auctions because I get expensive things very cheap. I just bought my girlfriend a $60 iPad 2 for her birthday. Penny auctions are crazy around christmas time too so make sure if you are going to try, try it now before tons of people hop on during the busy season. I attached a copy of the sign up link of the site it use. There you will find any Q&A as well as sign up if you wanna give it a try. But definatly give it a look, you wont regret it. http://preferredpublishers.go2cloud.org/SH3b
